Luzaida Cuevas was downstairs. She was in the middle of doing something, and then there was a sudden blast. The house was on fire. She sped to her eldest two children’s room and led them outside the house.

Luz made her way up the stairs at the speed of lighting. Her newborn baby was lying there in a cot, unaware of the dangerous flames that were about to engulf her.

Luz went through the smoke and dodged flames here and there until she reached Delimar’s room.

But to her shock, Delmar wasn’t there. Luz tried clearing her eyes, thinking that maybe she wasn’t seeing clearly, but that didn’t change the reality. Luz knew she couldn’t stay inside the house; the heat and the smoke were overwhelming. She reluctantly made her way outside.

The emergency services later arrived at the scene and put out the fire. Now, due to the aftermath of the damage, nothing could be salvaged from the house, not even Delimar’s remains. The investigators concluded that the newborn was incinerated.
