BBefore October 1941, Mount Rushmore was a holy place sacred to the Lacota people. The mountain was one of six father mountains that represented their connection to the spiritual world. The area also had another deep meaning.

The Native Americans who lived there believed their ancestors first came out of a special cave in the heart of the mountains.

But, the New White Settlers found a way to tamper with the sacred.

The New Americans Didn’t See Value in The Myth

The Native American tribes were in absolute control of the Black Hills, South Dakota.

The Black Hills lands were the western part of the Sioux nation.

It was a home and a sacred place to the Lacota tribe.

But, because of the New White Settlers' need for expansion, the original Black Hills settlers were constantly threatened by their invasion.

The New White Settlers sought to use brute force or unfair treaties to gain more control over the Black Hills.

The U.S. government would often break these treaties.
