The Disturbing History of the Girl With Blue Eyes
The tragic case of Raudha Athif
--
A friend knocked on Raudha’s dorm room door early in the afternoon, but she got no response.
She managed to peep through the gap between the double door. What she saw inside sent her screaming down the hallway, attracting the attention of the other girls.
Raudha’s door was open in no time. Then the police arrived.
Raudha, the girl with the blue eyes
Raudha Athif was famously known as the Maldivian girl with the blue eyes.
She gained the name after a photo of her went viral online. That also led to the debut of her modeling career as many agencies reached out to the strong, jaw-lined, shimmering, blue-eyed beauty.
Raudha was not only beautiful but also kind and intelligent. She followed her passion for helping people by enrolling in medical school in Bangladesh.
Raudha tried to fit in the very conservative Muslim country by also dressing in decent covering clothes along with a hijab.
But she was a very gorgeous girl, so it was hard not to notice her.
Two years later, she was planning to transfer to a medical school in Australia to finish her degree and join her family there.
A huge opportunity with a top magazine
It was around that time that she was presented with an opportunity to appear on the cover of Vogue India along with other girls.
After the magazine was released, Raudha got a lot of attention, especially from her school peers. The more conservative Muslims felt offended by how she had dressed for the Vogue shoot.
They were offended by how revealing her dress was on the cover and had problems with her modeling career as a whole.
On March 29th, 2017, Raudha’s friend stopped by her room to check on her. The double doors were locked. And Raudha wasn’t answering the door.
The friend peered inside through an opening between the doors. What she saw inside was so terrifying that she screamed so loud, attracting the attention of the other girls on the floor.
Together, they broke down the door. Raudha was dead.
A lot of things surrounding Raudha’s death didn’t add up
The girls stated that they had found Raudha hanging by a cloth on a ceiling fan. The girls removed her and laid her on the bed facing up before the police arrived, which sounded very suspicious.
Raudha also weighed more than fifty kilograms, a weight too heavy to be sustained by that ceiling fan.
What was more puzzling were the signs of routine in Raudha’s room. A half-drunk cup of tea sat on the table. She was also in the middle of cooking a curry for lunch.
The girls who found the body said they had broken down Raudha’s door when they found it locked. But the door was still intact.
Meanwhile, there were clear signs of a struggle inside the room from a cracked glass mirror and glass table.
A decent number of concerned floor mates were hanging around Raudha’s room, which destroyed possible evidence on the scene.
The more loopholes in Raudha’s case
Raudha’s body was rushed to the hospital, where a quick autopsy was carried out. Her death was ruled as suicide by hanging.
Raudha’s family didn’t believe that she had ended her life. Everything surrounding her death seemed off. Moreover, their daughter had a lot going for her.
To make things even more suspicious, the scarf she had apparently used to hang herself didn’t match the marks on her neck. The marks were deep and abrasive and consistent with marks made by a belt.
Raudha also had deep marks on her neck, as if she had been strangled.
A jealous friend, a frenemy
The last person to see Raudha alive was her best friend, Seerat. There was reason to believe that her best friend was jealous of her.
Raudha was stunningly beautiful and successful in school. She seemed to have her life together.
It turned out that Raudha had complained to her father of stomach pain a week before she died. She believed her Seerat had poisoned her drink.
A day after her death, Raudha’s Instagram account showed suspicious activity. An unknown person logged into the account and unfollowed two people, one of whom was Seerat. The person then deleted Raudha’s account a few days later.
There is another theory that a domestic extremist group killed Raudha. There is reason to believe that her Vogue cover caught the attention of people who felt that she had disrespected the Bangladeshi and Muslim traditions and had to die.
Final thoughts
The Bangladesh Criminal Investigation Department exhumed Raudha’s body for further investigation. However, they also concluded that she committed suicide.
They believed she had argued with her boyfriend, who then wanted to end the relationship, which was her motive to end her life.
What do you think happened to Raudha? I believe someone put an end to the girl with the deep blue eyes. The suicide conclusion seems like a huge cover-up. Let’s discuss your opinions in the replies.
