Owen nodded at Charles; it was time.

Charles took a deep breath and moved towards Owen.

He took out a gun, placed the barrel against the back of Owen’s head, and then — a shot. Owen fell dead on the ground.

Then Charles began tearing into Owen’s flesh and organs without hesitation or second thought.

The other two sailors on the boat joined Charles. They began devouring Owen’s flesh and organs while his blood dripped down their hands.

Owen Was Eighteen

Owen Coffin was an eighteen-year-old young man from Nantucket, Massachusetts, USA.

He was the son of Nancy (Bunker) and Hezekiah Coffin.

Owen had grown up surrounded by water. The main activity in Owen’s community was whaling (the practice of hunting and killing whales for their oil, meat, or whalebone).

Owen had had his fair share of learning to sail and also learning the many customs of the sea. And he knew that one custom, in particular, was rarely practiced at sea.
