Samuel went upstairs to attend to his wife, who had called him.

Marilyn’s body faced up while her face looked toward the door. She had deep gashes on her face, and part of her pajamas had been removed.

She had been bludgeoned to death.

Samuel called the mayor,

“My God, Spencer, get over here quick….I think they have killed Marilyn!”

Marilyn Was Thirty-One

Marilyn Reese Sheppard was a thirty-one-year-old mother and wife from Ohio, USA.

Marilyn grew up in Cleveland. She met Samuel Holmes Sheppard in high school, and the two fell in love.

Samuel went on to study to become a doctor in Los Angeles. He returned home and married his high school sweetheart.

Samuel and Marilyn moved to Bay Village. They bought a home on a high cliff with a beautiful lake view. The two spent their free time playing golf, skiing, and hosting house parties.

Samuel worked as a neurosurgeon. Marilyn was a housewife and a bible teacher at the local Methodist church.

The love birds soon welcomed their first son, Samuel Reese Sheppard, whom they affectionately called Chip.

Samuel Was Unfaithful

Marilyn found out that Samuel was cheating on her with a lab technician at the hospital, Susan Hayes.

Marilyn and Samuel tried to work on their collapsing marriage. Divorce wasn’t an option. Marilyn then got pregnant again.

On July 3rd, 1954, Marilyn and Samuel invited their neighbors and friends to a party. Marilyn said goodbye to the guests after midnight. Samuel had already dozed on the couch.

Then, the Bay Village Mayor, Spencer Houk, received a disturbing call from Samuel at around 5:40 a.m. on July 4th.
