It was in the wee hours of the morning.

Danish’s world came crashing down when he returned home to find a scene from a horror movie. His mother lay dead under a blanket on the living room floor.

Danish called 911.

Danish: I came home, and she’s got blood all over her. She’s on the floor between the sofa. She’s got blood on her.

Dispatcher: Okay, is she… is she breathing normally?

Danish: No, she, she’s not doing anything, ma’am. She’s gone.

Dispatcher: We have help coming for you, okay?

Danish: Thank you.

Dispatcher: Stay on the line with me, though.

Danish: *Sobbing*

Tabassum Was Forty-Three

Tabassum Khan was a forty-three-year-old mother from Houston, Texas.

She had immigrated from Pakistan after divorcing the father of her two children.

Tabassum’s world revolved around her sons. She worked fourteen hours daily to give them the best life possible. Her first eventually moved out.
